Hanul lui Manuc is one of the most important restaurants in Bucharest, housed in an old building declared historical monument. Very popular for its excellent traditional, Lebanese and international gastronomic relishes, Hanul lui Manuc is also a touristic attraction, as many people come here to find out the story of Manuc, the restaurant’s founder. Very rich and powerful, Manuc Bei (Manuc Mârzaian) transformed the inn in one of the most popular of the 19th century.
Nowadays, Hanul lui Manuc is an excellent venue which caters to every need of its guests. Whether you want to eat traditional dishes or try something more exotic, to have a drink in a more intimate atmosphere or enjoy the city’s hustle and bustle, here you have the possibility.
Manuc Cafe, a chic and warm place which welcomes you with tantalizing smells, is perfect if you want a flavoured coffee, a hot tea or fine drinks.
The three-storey Manuc Bistro, tastefully decorated with traditional furniture and old paintings, offers an eclectic menu, including Romanian food, bistro food and snacks. If you pass the bistro’s threshold, under no circumstances should you miss the fabulous carrot cake with nuts and ginger.
If exotic tastes suit you better, try Manuc Levantin, specialized in Lebanese cuisine, which was awarded the title of the Best Lebanese Restaurant in Bucharest in December 2011.
On the inn’s side facing the interior courtyard, the first and second floors are bordered by a generous veranda, called Cerdac. From early spring till late autumn, this is the perfect place to enjoy the sun, the fresh air and the view on the restaurant’s garden, while enjoying a beer or a cup of coffee.
The restaurant’s main salon, seating up to 220 people, has been recently rehabilitated. People who come here have the chance to listen to live Romanian music performances and to enjoy traditional dishes, specific to every region in the country.
For a more “historical” atmosphere, go to the Princely Salon (Salonul Voievodal), the place where the Treaty of Bucharest between the Ottoman and the Russian Empires was signed in 1812, to mark the end of the Russo-Turkish War.
The smallest of the restaurant’s salons, with a capacity of 100 people, is the Inn’s Hall. This salon is used primarily for business events, such as congresses, conferences and symposia, but also for private events, such as weddings and birthday celebrations.
