Oltenia Philharmonic in Craiova is a renowned institution in the Romanian musical and cultural life, founded in 1904 and reorganized in 1947 by a royal decree. The Philharmonic’s orchestras are the Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra, the Academic Choir and the chamber assemblies, being ones of the most appreciated artistic instrumental ensembles of this type in Romania.

The repertoires of the Philharmonic’s orchestras and guests cover a great diversity of musical works, from symphony and opera to jazz and contemporary music. Throughout the years, the Philharmonic’s orchestras were conducted by important musical personalities and collaborated with famous international soloists, and also participated in many artistic international tours.

The most important annual event that the institution organizes is the International Festival “Craiova Muzicală”, which gathers important national and international artists, both in the field of symphonic and vocal – symphonic music and in the field of jazz and chamber music. The festival usually reunites concerts very different, varied and dynamic from the point of view of the reportorial structure, in order to meet the expectations of even the most exigent public.

Oltenia Philharmonic is located in Craiova city centre, on Calea Unirii, 100m from Mihai Viteazul Square.

By bus: From Craiova Train Station take bus #1b to Olteţ station, located in the city centre, and then take a 10min walk to Oltenia Philharmonic.
